Abstract/Summary:
The translation report is based on the conceptual integration theory, mainly studying the filling of semantic blanks in the excerpts of Business Ethics in the 21 st Century written by Norman Bowie, which has a great influence on the field of business management. In the report, brief introduction and description of the translation task are made. The process of the task is shown, which contains the author’s work of pre-translation and three stages of first draft, revision and final draft in detail. It reveals the sufficiency of the accumulated materials, explains the characteristics of the text, expounds the theoretical basis of conceptual integration, and makes identification of the translating difficulties.Based on the above-mentioned,the problems and solutions in the textual translation are put forward. It elaborates on the chief difficulty in the translation via case-study,and points out the solutions in the filling of semantic blanks in the four aspects of words(noun, adjective),phrases(noun phrase, verbal phrase, prepositional phrase),sentences(simple sentence, compound sentence)and discourse(semantic cohesion, context construal): converting implicitness into explicitness, adding intra-textual and extra-textual annotations, translating creatively, retaining blanks, etc. Also, the one-scope and two-scope model and the internal context are mentioned in this part. The gains or value and the limitation or difficulties in the completion of the translating practice are discussed. The report aims to analyze semantic blanks in the translation process from a new perspective, present the corresponding solution by using typical cases, summarize and reflect upon the translation task, examine the feasibility and validity in the application, and contribute to the relevant research for further reference.
