| Metonymy is one of the key figures of speech in language,the appearance of Metonymy can be seen in any language.In the process of communication,to highlight a thing,object or concept without directly mentioning about it,a relevant,similar or closely associated object is used to replace the origin one.However,it seems like linguists have not conducted depth research to study and compare thoroughly the use of Metonymy in Vietnamese and Chinese.Thus,this thesis is based on the research and analysis of the aspects of Metonymy in Vietnamese and in Chinese in order to show the differences between the use of Metonymy in the two languages,and to highlight the characteristic and applicability of Metonymy.China and Vietnam,two countries with adjacent rivers and mountains,have many correlations in every aspect like culture,customs,communicative languages,etc.Vietnam has been influenced by Chinese culture,but those influences have created the correlations which complete Vietnamese culture with its own distinctive features.Due to the cultural elements in the language,the choice of the replaced object for origin one in Metonymy is more or less influenced,creating confusions while using.This is also the main cause of the awareness disruptions during language studying process.Therefore,this thesis is based on the conception,classification,and efficiency of Metonymy in Chinese and Vietnamese to apply the Metonymy proficiently in teaching,studying,communication and translation,then we can study,compare Metonymy of both languages,and differentiate the differences.The research in this thesis would be useful for further studies in culture,language and translation,then,enhance the acknowledge about Chinese and Vietnamese languages for learners. |
