Study On Chinese-Vietnamese Subtitle Translation Of The Vietnamese Movie-The White Silk Dress

The White Silk Dress is one of the representative films in Vietnam in recentyears. This study mainly adopted theories like Cultural linguistics, Interculturalcommunication, Translation theory and the other related methods to analyze,describe and compare Chinese-Vietnamese subtitle of this movie. By study, theauthor has summarized some Chinese-Vietnamese subtitle translation errors andtranslation skills in film works. This Paper is divided into five parts. TheIntroduction part outlines the research background, status, purpose, methodologyand corpus source. The first Chapter introduces the types and characteristics ofsubtitle translation. The second Chapter discusses the translation strategies whichhave been mainly applied for the subtitle translation in The White Silk Dress. Thethird Chapter takes some subtitle translation in this movie for examples, toanalyze and point out the translation inadequacies in this movie, and makeconclusions at the Conclusions part of this study. By analytical study on thesubtitle translation of The White Silk Dress, this paper summarized that this moviemainly applied for translation strategies such as Adaptation and Alienation,Functional equivalence, Abridgement and Transliteration and so on, which havebeen relatively successful in convey the massages of the movie. This article alsopointed out some mistranslations and omissions in the movie, and come up withthe correct translation method. By study the Chinese-Vietnamese subtitletranslation skill of this movie, which not only provide some references forsubtitles translation of Vietnam films, but also enriched the Chinese-Vietnamesetranslation theory.
