Humanist Geography: An Individual’s Search for Meaning is a book written by famous humanist geographer Yi-Fu Tuan.It is an important book on humanistic geography,which is of great significance for us to study humanistic geography.The language of this book is plain and simple,while the content is deeply thought-provoking.In the process of translation,I found that there were great differences between English and Chinese language in expression.We needed to find a practical theory to guide translation practice.After analysis and research,I found that the theory of ecological translation was an effective way to solve differences between Chinese and English.Under the guidance of the theory of ecological translation,I used flexible and diverse translation strategies.I gave full play to the translator’s subjectivity,and strove to achieve the adaptability and selection of translation.I finally realized the translation of the original text and the translation in the language,culture,communicative dimensions,conveying the meaning that the author wants to express to the maximum extent.The translation report is structured according to my actual translating procedure as the following four chapters: Chapter one introduces the translation project including the project background,objectives,significance,and content of ecological translation theory.Chapter two involves the background of the original work,including the author’s introduction,the main content of the original work,and the analysis of original text.Chapter three is the main part of this paper which introduces the preparation before translation,many difficulties encountered in the translation process and the main translation methods used.In the process of translation,I am guided by the theory of ecological translation.Under the guidance of this theory,I apply many translation methods to my translation.In chapter three,I illustrate the translation methods used in the translation process by a large number of translation examples.The translation methods mainly include amplification and omission,division and combination,simultaneous translation and reverse translation,and domestication and foreignization.Chapter four makes a summary,mainly including the experience and lessons of this translation practice and issues that remain to be solved.
