Reading is a key component of senior high school English teaching.Traditional teaching methods pay more attention to the training of students’ reading skills,but use few teaching activities,which could not meet the growing individualized needs of students.The Flipped Classroom Teaching Mode has provided a new way of thinking for English reading teaching,through innovating the traditional teaching procedure and emphasizing the diversity of the classroom activities.Based on the theories of blended learning,mastery learning and autonomous learning,this study systematically reviewed literature relevant to Flipped Classroom and English reading teaching,investigated the effects of this mode on senior high school English reading learning.Using two intact classes of grade one in a senior high school in Yueyang as subject,the researcher applied this mode to classroom teaching and collected relevant data through designing and conduct of questionnaire survey,interview and classroom assessments.Combining both qualitative and quantitative analysis methods,the researcher conducted a variety of statistical analysis using SPSS 22.0 to analyze the questionnaire,the pre-test and post-test data,namely,descriptive statistics,independent sample T test,paired sample T test,and answered the main research questions.The major findings of this study are as follows:(1)The implementation of Flipped Classroom has strengthened students’ learning motivation and enhanced their autonomous learning ability and interests in English reading;(2)Compared with the traditional teaching mode,Flipped Classroom Mode can improve students’ reading ability more effectively.The results indicate that it is quite feasible to implement the Flipped Classroom Mode and it will exert quite positive impact on senior high school students’ English reading learning.With the innovation of teaching philosophy and the development of educational technology,it is expected that the Flipped Classroom Mode will be fully applied to teaching of senior high school English and enhance students’ learning competence in an all-round way. |
