He Youzhi is a famous contemporary comic master in China.With his own unique literary perspective,he created a series of genre paintings,named A Perspective of He Youzhi: The Paintings in Every Conceivable Line of Work.This book describes the life of people who works and lives in old Shanghai in various occupations by using the exquisite line drawings as well as the humorous and sharp-witted prose.These kind of genre paintings are not only the symbol of the old Shanghai,but also has the important value of social and historical research as well as the reference value of historical materials.This essay focus on some aspects,such as cultural background,artist's character,painting technique and the choice of the theme,which has been created from the features of the creation of A Perspective of He Youzhi: The Paintings in Every Conceivable Line of Work.In these aspects,I will try to figure out He Youzhi's personality characteristics and the attitudes of life and also to understand his old Shanghai complex and open-minded outlook of life.Based on combining them and the corresponding paintings together,I will analyse,interpret and demonstrate the unique characteristics and attraction of He Youzhi's art.This essay contributes to the deep understanding of genre painting and analyses the features of native cultural in China from He Youzhi's creations,to rethink profoundly the development direction of Chinese contemporary comics and illustrations in native style.
