During late 19th century to 20th century, with the great progress of human society in a short period of time, art was moving towards a diversified era.Various attempts had been made by the artists to break through the limitations in the past. The techniques of paintings, have gradually turned into more abstract methods from purely imitation of concrete objects. As to the theory of painting, artists began to think about the significance and objective of art.Wassily Kandinsky,a famous Russian painter and art theorist, who is credited with painting one of the first recognized purely abstract works. In his theory,Kandinsky analyzed the geometrical elements which constitute every painting are the point and the line.He also called the physical support and the material surface on which the artist paints the basic plane. He analyzed them from the point of view of their inner effect on the observer and pointed out the organic relationship of the elements of painting. As paint elements, geometry is widely used in artworks. In many artists' works, the geometric elements are able to act as the theme of art to express one's feelings or as the depiction methods to show the unique art style. In this paper, the significance of geometric elements in artworks will be analyzed and presented from theoretical and practical methodologies. In addition,a detailed illustration of the creative concepts embedded in my own works will be delivered.
