Since the founding of New China,China has emerged a large number of "Red Classic" works that demonstrate the success of the Chinese revolution and the achievements of socialist construction.These works have preserved the memory of youth in several generations in China and played a major role in spreading and constructing socialist values.The novel “struggles in an ancient city” is a “Red Classic” work with extensive influence.The heroic feelings and lofty revolutionary spirit contained in the works have infected many readers,and they have swept the country once they are published.From the publication of the novel in 1958 to today’s21st century movies and television dramas,“ struggles in an ancient city ” was successively adapted into a variety of literary forms,which have won wide acclaim.This article selects the 1958 edition novel,the 1963 edition movie,the 1995 version of the TV series and the 2005 version of the TV series as the object of study.It attempts to cross-text study the different versions of the “ Red Classics ” work“struggles in an ancient city” in order to trace the new China through the works themselves.the pulse history and the current era of the spirit.This paper is divided into four chapters,which are as follows:In the first chapter of the thesis,the author conducts a comparative analysis of the versions of struggles in an ancient city from the subject and discusses the changes in thematic expressions and the causes of changes in different text adaptation processes.The "struggles in an ancient city" shows its own characteristics in terms of theme from novels to television dramas.The novel is filled with the spirit of revolutionary optimism,and through a tortuous storyline and vivid characters,it composes a soul-stirring revolutionary hero hymn that shows the vitality of the Communist Party of China.The film is more concerned with women’s growth,expresses revolutionary themes through women’s growth,and integrates class nature with human nature,women’s growth,and revolutionary practices.In the context of the era of the arrival of the socialist market economy,the 1995 TV drama was notaffected by the commodity economy.Through a brand new art form,the spirit of heroism,idealism,and revolutionary optimism in the original book was vividly demonstrated.Although the 2005 edition of the TV series is the most serious and full of legendary adaptations,it always conveys the sentiments of homeland sentiments in the first place,precisely combining the thrilling and tense story with the theme of patriotism and anti-Japanese in the original book.In the second chapter of the dissertation,the author starts with the character image and further discusses the characteristics of different versions of characters in the “struggles in an ancient city”.In this article,the author selects the four most representative figures of the revolutionary hero Yang Xiaodong,the revolutionary female silver ring,the revolutionary mother Yang Mu,and the revolutionary traitor Gao Ziping,and discusses their similarities and differences in different texts and causes of changes..According to the author’s analysis,Yang Xiaodong’s character changes most dramatically in different texts: from the perfect warrior image in the1958 novel to the political lecturer symbolized in the 1963 movie,and to the legendary TV series in the 2005 edition.The revolutionary leader,his image changes in different historical periods have shown distinctive characteristics of the times,but at the same time they all retained the lofty spiritual qualities of the original book.In the third and fourth chapters of the dissertation,the author further explores the narrative strategies and rhetoric changes in the book“struggles in an ancient city”on the basis of the theme and the character image.The article begins with a narrative strategy and analyzes in detail the characteristics and rhythm of different texts in narrative space time,narrative events,and narrative rhythm.In addition,the author finds that the use of rhetoric in different texts also shows their own characteristics,especially the literary texts and video texts have many differences in rhetorical devices.Therefore,this article also discusses different texts from the perspective of rhetoric and tries to find out its intrinsic value.This article explores the characteristics of different texts through the cross-text study of the struggles in an ancient city,and seeks to find out the reasons for the changes by comparing the similarities and differences of texts in different periods,andto clarify the differences between texts and The relationship between the various texts and the cultural context at that time.Through the adaptation of the "Red Classics" in the "struggles in an ancient city",the adaptation of the current "Red Classics" works,only on the basis of respect for the spirit of the original,constantly absorbing the elements of the times,casting fresh
