As an effective channel for students to improve their comprehensive language application ability,reading becomes an essential factor for learners to learn English.Therefore,how to improve the students' reading ability is the vital task as well as a central part of English learning in higher vocational colleges.Nowadays,because the English knowledge and ability of higher vocational students are poor and uneven,the English reading teaching is currently confronted with a serious challenge.Unless we analyze higher vocational students' needs in English reading and respect their discrepancy and design vocational English reading teaching procedures and strategies more in line with their actual needs level to meet their different learning needs,can we achieve teaching goal efficiently.So,the author applies needs analysis to English reading teaching and designs a questionnaire to identify the students' needs for English reading.Theory research method,questionnaire,interview,tests,self-comments are also used.According to the researches,the author notices that the students have different needs and their English reading level is pretty low.And it's necessary to improve their reading ability base on the way of optimizing English reading input.The subjects of the reading teaching experiment are students from two classes of Grade 2017,Class International Economics as the experimental class and Class Trade and Cross-border Ecommerce as the controlled class,which lasts for a semester.After the experiencing teaching,the author analyses the result by SPSS and the data shows that there is a significant difference in the reading scores(P=0.000<0.05).Consequently,the experiencing teaching is effective and the students' reading ability is significantly improved of the students from experimental class.In conclusion,the English teaching based on the students' reading needs analysis is helpful to improve reading ability of higher vocational students.Students' reading needs analysis affects English reading teaching.It plays an important role in the reading teaching.The students' needs are satisfied basically and their reading ability is improved.
