A Discussion On The Calligraphy Style Of Wei Junxiu

Wei Junxiu is a famous contemporary scholar and calligrapher and owns national reputation for the outstanding research on Zhuang’s theory and Luxun’s literature.He particularly devotes to highlighting the calligraphy by knowledge acquisition and is thought highly as “scholar calligrapher” in calligraphy academic field.Being a calligrapher with unique style in Shaanxi province,Wei Junxiu is regarded as“one of four greatest cursive calligraphers in the twentieth century”.The paper is divided into three chapters.The first chapter starts with the life experience of Wei Junxiu and makes a brief acknowledgement about Wei Junxiu’s living environment in early ages and experience of his growth,mainly from the respective of clan,knowledge acquiring and career.The second chapter researches the calligraphy learning experience of Wei Junxiu from the respective of master inheriting relations and calligraphy period dividing.The paper analyzes the cultivation process of calligraphy style of Wei Junxiu from three time points that is before1970 s and from the end of 1970 s to the beginning of 1990 s,and from 1990 s to the end of his life journey.The third chapter researches the features of Wei Junxiu’s calligraphy style in the respective of pen operating and word knotting of regular script,running script,cursive script,and official script.The fourth chapter studies the origin of Wei Junxiu’s calligraphy style by further investigation on Wei Junxiu’s Academic Journal and analyzes the cause of his calligraphy feature based on the literature of Random theory of Zhuangzi and Research on Fushan and Exploration of Weed.Wei Junxiu initiates the calligraphy aesthetic value that is “being a true man before a calligrapher,the calligraphy feature reflects one’s character” and holds the calligraphy belief of“brings tablet into cursive script” and offers some prominent views on pen operating and word knotting.The paper which does further analysis on Wei Junxiu’s calligraphy views is of great guiding meaning and model significance on the present “uniformed writing style” phenomenon for the lack of the culture in calligraphy forum and the calligraphy creating dilemma due to the more focus in technology performance.
