Presently,China has been conducting a rising number of medical exchanges with other countries with advanced medical technology and concept. This report is written based on the author’s interpreting experience in the course of the presentation on Fast-track Surgical Program by Second People’s Hospital of Lanzhou City scheduled on June 7th,2016.In this report, the author elaborates the progress of the program, the problems and difficulties she encountered during implementation and expectation for future cooperation. This report falls into five parts. The first part is abstract, which gives a brief introduction to the background information on the task. The second part is task description,in which the background information, the contents of the task and the requirements by the client are included. The third part is interpretation process, including before-interpreting,while-interpreting and after-interpreting activities. In this part, the author explicates her preparation, quality control standards and feedback from clients. The fourth part is case analysis and the author conducts analysis and reflection from lexical, syntactical and discourse perspectives. In the last part,a conclusion on the interpreting activity is presented by the author.During interpreting activity, the author faced with problems on lexical, syntactical and discourse levels such as ambiguity,non-accuracy and dis-coherence.Nevertheless,the author finds those problems could be tackled via Relevance Theory.Firstly, the interpreter should be well prepared before interpreting by inputting regarding medical terms and information so that she could establish a relatively complete ST system, which will help her response quickly and produce reasonable inference.Secondly, the interpreter should seek for relevance based on linguistic and extra-linguistic context.Thirdly, the interpreter should be capable of employing various interpreting methods.Fourthly, the interpreter should make the best use of each clue, including voice and tone of speakers, facial expressions, body language for an appropriate inference. The interpreter successfully applied Relevance Theory into her interpretation practice, carried out analysis on the problems, reflection on interpreting process and summary on interpretation strategies and methods during the activity. This report written under Relevance is expected to elevate the author’s capability on future interpreting practice and serve as a reference for other interpreters and amateurs.
