This paper studies the process of consciousness or the consciousness structure that people experience when viewing images. The analysis is conducted by reviewing Husserl’s manuscripts Phantasy,Image Consciousness, and Memory.Logical Investigations;Ideas: General Introduction to Pure Phenomenology and some other literature in this field. There is no doubt that the theory of Image Consciousness is very important in Husserl’s phenomenological system.Although the structure of Image Consciousness is only three layers from the surface, its contents are not as simple and clear as they appear. The paper first describes the Husserl’s manuscript of the winter lecture in1904/05 and puts forward a critique of Image Theory focusing on the confusion between Image Presentation and Phantasy Presentation that leads to his image Consciousness structure establishment. Then, through the analysis of the structure of Image Consciousness and its corresponding object, the essential feature of Image Consciousness is finally clarified. In order to further understand the Phenomenology of Image Consciousness, one need to have a comprehensive understanding of the theory of Consciousness,Phantasy and Memory in Phenomenology. The reason is that the Image Consciousness does not only focus on a specific type of Consciousness, other concepts, such as Perception,Auffassung,Position and Representation, also play an important role in the development of the theory of the Image Consciousness.Only by integrating all these concepts together can we clarify the problem of Image Consciousness and identify its position in Phenomenology.Meanwhile,a new perceptive in the interpretation of this problem can be obtained to help us better understand the theory of Phenomenology.
