On The Use Of Twelve-tone Tonality Techniques In George Perle's <Annotated Score Of Etude No.1>

Since 20 th Century,musicians began not only to be satisfied with the traditional music of rigor but to look for liberalization and innovation when creating musics.A large number of modern musical works appeared and many new theories of music creation have been bred.They all reflect the non-tonal features far from the traditional tonality.In the organization and analysis works of the pitch and harmony,musicians constantly try to explore the effective method of non-tonal pitch,emerged as the dodecaphony music composer theory which is strongly moderistic.For the later modern music creation,the technique research and the work analysis and so on the activity had the quite big influence as well as the reference funcion.Among them,American composer,theorist George Perle made a exploration and development to the dodecaphony composition techniques,especially further easing the problem about harmony organizing,forming a unique composing system distincting from the dodecaphony composing system.<Twelve-Tone Tonality>is one of the important achievements of this period.The twelve-tone tonality belongs to the atonal music category system,but from the name arrangement we can see George Perle's twelve-tone tonality system is combined with the traditional music concepts,so it made a improvement and innovation to the dodecaphony system.In this thesis.I did a research to the experimental music George Perle wrote on the pitch which is <Annotated Score of Etude No.1> about its harmony,musical structure,musical performance and other aspects of design,analysing the composer's arrangement in music creation in the pitch,harmony organization which is free and full of logic.Thus it can broaden our process of thinking when composing in the modern times in the arrangement of pitch,harmony,music structure and other elements,and we can broaden our thinking in the process of modern composition,doing further research and developments to compose logical,free,rigorous modern compotional thought.The thesis has three parts.In the first part of this thesis I introduced the creation background of the studying object,opening the theoretical foundation for the followingresearch work,increasing the feasibility of the research.The second part is for the music ontology analysis based on the twelve-tone tonality theory <Annotated Score of Etude No.1>,analysis of the work of the structure arrangement,the pitch arrangement,and the Polyphony,in which the most important part is the The formation of musical materials based on the twelve tone tonality.learning the design techniques in music creation.In the Third part I made a comparasion between George Perle's twelve-tone tonality and Arnold Schoenberg's dodecaphony composition method,compareing their similarities and differences in pitch,harmony organization and so on,then smummed up the enlightenment for modern music creation.
