In recent years, the economic and trade relations between China and New Zealand have become increasingly close, but most people in New Zealand, including Chinese learners, have a very limited understanding of Chinese language and culture.China is the origin of tea culture and Chinese tea culture used to have great influence in the world.New Zealand is also a country with tea-drinking traditions and it has its own unique and strong tea culture atmosphere. The researches about the tea culture differences between China and New Zealand and how to develop Chinese tea culture teaching effectively in New Zealand according to the learners' cultural background and language level are still needed to be added.Based on my teaching practice in New Zealand,I took evening class students as an example to make the Chinese tea culture teaching design for the Chinese learners in New Zealand.Firstly, this paper surveyed and analyzed the basic characteristics of the learners, and the cognitive status and the learning interest and demand of Chinese tea culture of the learners. Then,in a cross-cultural perspective, the tea culture has been compared and analyzed between China and New Zealand from many aspects. And then, made this Chinese tea culture teaching design for the Chinese learners in New Zealand, including teaching objectives design, teaching contents selection and arrangement, teaching methods and strategies design, and has also presented the overall design and part of the lesson plan in this paper. Finally, the results of the practice of this teaching design in Tai Poutini Polytechnic were analyzed and feedbacked by class observation, questionnaire and interview. The problems were found in the feedback, and then reflected on it.It is hoped that this paper can offer a reference to the improvement and promotion of Chinese tea culture teaching and communication in New Zealand and other countries or regions overseas.
