On Reference Use Of 'Yi + Classifier + Noun'

‘Yi + classifier + noun' is a special construction.Previous researches mainly focus on its indefinite reference use.‘Yi + classifier + noun' can express different kinds of reference.This thesis is resolved to investigate the different reference use of‘yi + classifier + noun.' Owing to the special use of ‘yi',‘yi + classifier + noun' can not only stress the quantity information but also express different kinds of reference.The thesis will explain three kinds of reference use of this construction.The reference of ‘yi + classifier + noun' has a close relationship with its context.Thus,this thesis will explain the different reference use of ‘yi + classifier + noun'from its distribution and pragmatic perspectives.When ‘yi + classifier + noun'appears in the ba construction and personal pronoun construction,it will present different characteristics.‘Yi + classifier + noun' and bare noun phrases both can express reference use.However,the reference use of the two constructions has similarities and differences.‘Yi + classifier + noun' is a special ‘numeral + classifier+ noun' construction.The reference of ‘yi + classifier + noun' and ‘numeral +classifier + noun' also exist similarities and differences.Sometimes,there exists restrictions on the numeral.Based on the above analysis,three questions are supposed to be answered in this thesis.?.What is the condition and intention of different reference use of ‘yi + classifier+ noun'??.What is the reference use of ‘yi + classifier + noun' in special constructions??.What are the reference similarities and differences among ‘yi + classifier +noun';bare NPs and ‘numeral + classifier + noun' ?Regarding the three questions above,a series of investigations and analysis have been made.For the first question,non-referential use;indefinite reference use and definite reference use have been studied from syntactic and pragmatic perspectives.As for the second question,two special constructions have been investigated.‘Personal pronoun + yi + classifier + noun' has different reference use when it lies in the different positions.‘Ba + yi + classifier + noun' have definite reference use and non-reference use.When it is a simple statement,it is usually indefinite.When it occurs in a context including lots of subjective information,it is usually definite.For the third question,this thesis mainly compares the different reference use of them when they occur in the subject position and object position.Then this thesis gives an explanation for some counterexamples.The thesis first investigates the reference of ‘yi + classifier + noun' from its distribution and pragmatic perspectives.Then this thesis accounts for some special constructions with ‘yi + classifier + noun' and makes comparisons with similar constructions.
