Reading plays an important role in high school English teaching,how to carry out reading teaching effectively has aroused the general concern among high school English teachers.But some teachers still use the grammar translation method in reading teaching,regard the discourse as word-for-word translation,interpretation,putting excessive emphasis on the interpretation of discourse in the vocabulary and grammar knowledge,dividing complete and meaningful discourse into several scattered language points,ignoring the language ability of students.Based on discourse analysis,language teaching should not be separated from words and sentences,just focusing on the explanation of pronunciation,vocabulary,grammar and sentence,but on the basis of text as a whole.Vocabulary,grammar and sentence are all the components of the text,which play an important role in the formation of the discourse,so we should pay attention to the learning of the discourse.Instruction activities should focus on text teaching.Furthermore,language teaching should help students understand the way of constructing a text among vocabulary,grammar and sentences from the perspective of helping students understand the text.So that it can achieve the goal of understanding,learning and using language.Based on the study of discourse analysis,context theory,cohesion theory and discourse pattern,this paper studies the practical effect of discourse analysis teaching in senior high school English reading teaching.this thesis aims to get practical effect of English reading teaching combined with teaching experiment,questionnaires and classroom observation.Through the research,the conclusion can been drawn that the students lack the sense of discourse,and it is difficult to use the reading skills which are related to discourse knowledge to help the reading comprehension.Teachers can use discourse analysis to carry out reading teaching,but their knowledge is not comprehensive and systematic.The reading teaching mode is still in the process of dealing with vocabularies,sentences and grammar,neglecting learning from the whole text.Thereading teaching under the guidance of discourse analysis theory can promote the improvement of students' reading ability,which is a feasible teaching mode.On this basis,suggestions are put forward to improving reading teaching in high school.
