It is well known that vocabulary plays an crucial role in language learning,and it is of an indispensable constituent in English teaching as well,which runs through the whole process of English teaching.However,the English teaching situation in Chinese senior high schools is not ideal enough.The single teaching method makes students lose the interest in learning English vocabulary.Memetics is based on the evolution theory of Darwin,whose purpose is to explain a new theory of cultural evolution process.This theory aims to research the language law and related phenomena based on memetics,which provided a new thought for English language teaching.The experiment in this thesis centers on two major questions:(1)What are the changes of the students' interests after the application of memetics method to English vocabulary teaching?(2)To what extent can English vocabulary teaching based on memetics improve students' vocabulary achievements?This research chose two classes of Grade Two in Jinzhou No.19 Senior High School as experimental subjects.One was the control class and the other was the experiment class.During the 12-week experiment,the author applied memetics method to English vocabulary teaching in the experimental class.By contrast,the students in the control class were still taught by traditional methods.And after the experiment,the author would collect and analyze the data about the tests,the questionnaire and the interview with SPSS19.0 to give the answers to the two research questions.The research indicates that English vocabulary teaching based on memetics method can not only increase students' interest in English vocabulary learning,but also make a positive effect on English vocabulary achievements of students.At the same time,teachers need to take students' cognition into consideration and apply various teaching forms when they teach English vocabulary to ensure the teaching effectiveness.Nevertheless,due to the limitation of time,insufficient experience of the author and other factors,the results of the thesis still need a further research and study.
