The Study On Militiamen In Jianghuai Region In The Southern Song Dynasty

The militiamen were important local armed forces in the Song Dynasty.At the turn of the Northern Song and Southern Song Dynasty,the war continued frequently.The fighting system based on the regular army in the Song Dynasty was severely damaged.In order to make up for the lack of military power,the militia developed rapidly and gradually became an important military supplement in the Southern Song Dynasty.Southern Song established Jiangnan,with the Jin’s army going to the region of Jiangnan,the Jianghuai region became the frontier to withstand the Jin.As one of the three major defense areas in the Southern Song Dynasty,it was an important part of the military defense system.In order to solve the problem of defense forces,the court followed the Northern Song Dynasty system and set up a large number of soldiers.The militiamen set up in the region of Jianghuai,it included: Xunshe,People’s militia,Tuhao militiamen,Huainan Wannushou,The Fortresses along the Huai,Chizhou ganyong,Qiangzhangshou,Zhuangdingmingshe,Huainan Zhenhuai army and Huannan yi-Soldier.The militiamen with different names,their creation,development and management were not the same.Judging from the setting up of areas by the militiamen,it clearly had a strong regional nature,and the Huainan East Road was the most concentrated.Judging from the recruitment methods,there were two types of recruits and registration systems in the region of Jianghuai.The conscription system adopted the principle of voluntariness and assembles villagers to form villagers.The system of enlistment was dotted by the government to form army soldiers.The militiamen set up in the region of Jianghuai mainly participate in foreign military defense and local governance.Among them,to assist the regular army to defend the frontier defense,participate in the defense of Huai River,defend the river,and seek to block the Jin and Meng’s(Yuan Dynasty)army to the south;the internal patrol against the thieves and the raids of the local rebel armed forces were important military forces to defend the Southern Song Dynasty regime.In addition,to restore productivity of the region of Jianghuai,the court operated the region of Jianghuai,also ordered the militiamen to the Tuntian.The militiamen in the region of Jianghuai also participated in Tuntian,it has developed into the early years of the Southern Song Dynasty conservative township,the main force of wasteland reclamation.While the court was organizing and using the soldiers of the region of Jianghuai,the court also bore suspicion and vigilance.The Southern Song Dynasty continued to strengthen the management of local armed forces so as to enhance the central government’s control over localities.At the end of the Southern Song Dynasty,there were always the militiamen in the Jianghuai Township in the Southern Song Dynasty.Although there were many limitations and problems in the development of the Jianghuai Township soldiers in the Southern Song Dynasty,they still played a certain role in the military defense and local governance in the Jianghuai region of the Southern Song Dynasty,and thus stabilized the Southern Song Dynasty.The regime has played a greater positive role.
