Annual report refers to the financial reports and other related documents of a company's whole accounting year and reflects the real operating and significant matters of the company during the previous year.The annual report is the main channel for the investing public to know about the status of a company and plays a vital role in their investment decisions.As a result,more and more attention is paid to translation of the annual reports.This report is based on the practice of translating 2016 Annual Report of Huawei Investment&Holding Co.,Ltd.The English translation of Chinese long sentences is the center of this research.Sentences are the basic translation units and discourse units.Proper sentence translation lays a good foundation for the translation of a text and is the essential qualification of a translator,which is an area that demands in-depth and comprehensive studies.What characteristics do the long English and Chinese sentences have?What are the differences are?Why do the differences exist?What are essential points of better translating long Chinese sentences?The report aims to make a tentative analysis of the above questions based on the translation of 2016 Annual Report of the Huawei Investment&Holding Co.,Ltd.On the basis of the background,preparation and process of translation,this report expounds how to translate Chinese long sentences into English through case analysis.Specifically,original sequence translation and new order translation are adopted in the translation.The methods such as cutting,subordination and translating in original sequence are introduced and analyzed with examples.The run-on sentences are always cut and then translated in the original sequence.The topic sentence is dealt with by reversing the part of comment into the beginning of English sentence,or by cutting it off from the whole sentence and translating it into a separate sentence of itself.In terms of the serial verb constructions,the main and subordinate clauses should be distinguished to establish the semantic focus and restructure the sentence in chronological and logic orders.Lastly,some practical translation strategies are summarized for long Chinese sentences in corporate annual reports.
