This thesis tries to explore and analyze whether the application of oral English teaching process from Multiple Intelligences Theory which put forward by Howard Gardner in 1983 is effective or not.MIT is a psychological theory, which includes eight parts. At first,Professor Gardner just wanted to modify the definition of Intelligence. After he redefined the intelligence in MIT,more and more researchers had interests in this theory. Finally this theory was applied to teaching. This theory focused on the different intelligences among students, and Professor Gardner had an idea that all the children have the eight intelligences when they were born. The differences among them were the relative weight of each intelligence, which was based on the theory of neurology and anthropology. From the view of MIT,language teaching process and steps are not the same to each student. So this research aims to change the traditional oral English teaching methods.Based on a brief introduction to the MIT,the author attempts to explore whether it is effective to apply MIT to oral English teaching in middle schools. This research mainly focuses on the following two questions:1.How does the Multiple Intelligences Theory teaching method improve students' learning interests?2.How does the Multiple Intelligences Theory teaching method improve students' oral proficiency? In this thesis, the author introduces the background of oral English teaching in China. Then a brief introduction to the theory of Multiple Intelligences is presented, including its originality and development. What follows is teaching experiment including three parts. There are 100 students who come from Chongde Middle School participate in this experiment. The first procedure of experiment is pre-test,and the purpose of this part is investigating the level of oral English in both control class and experimental class. The second is grouping students according to their different intelligences. Then in the oral English class, teacher designs different activities to different groups in order to practice their oral English and finish oral tasks. The last one is post-test.The post-test will be conducted as final oral exam. After the experiment, the data are analyzed by SPSS.The test data is in the form of scores to be collected and analyzed.Meanwhile, oral English questionnaire will help teachers to know clearly how to improve students' interest and oral proficiency;interview helps teachers know whether this teaching method is effectively or not;and literature is helpful for teachers to draw an objective conclusion. The conclusion is that the oral English teaching method based on MIT is effective for most students, because students have higher oral English scores and positive attitude towards oral English. This result means the MIT applied to English teaching is helpful and useful and the idea of teaching students in accordance to their aptitude is effective.Meanwhile, this thesis provide the reference to other teachers in the future.
