The Effect Of Makeup Part On The Facial Processing

Makeup will enhance the attractiveness of women and influence the perception of health and social characteristics.So many women are keen to use cosmetics with the increase of individual disposable income and the improvement of aesthetic requirements.At first,the study tended to be more inclined to the effect of makeup on attractiveness,as well as the impact of makeup on its health perception.Later,researchers began to use the ERP technology to explore the effect of makeup on the facial processing.The study found that the light makeup has advantages in facial processing.An interesting question is,does every part of the face play the same role in the processing? If not,which part is more important? For example,which is more important for face processing between lips and eyes? We are not clear about it.Present study selected 34 undergraduate students as participant,the material is taken from daily life facial images,in order to find the difference between the eyes and the lips during the facial processing.Study 1,an eye moving instrument was used to explore the tendency of the participants’ gaze characteristics in different conditions.Study 2,ERP technique was used to measure the differences of participants’ electroencephalogram(EEG)in several conditions.In study 1,regardless of the type of stimulus picture(eye makeup,lip makeup or no makeup),the attention to the eyes were higher than lips.In study 2,there was a gender difference in N170.In female participants,the N170 amplitude evoked by eye makeup were greater than lip makeup and no makeup.This phenomenon was not found in male participants.In P1,N170,P3,and LPC amplitude,eye makeup increased its amplitude compared to the lips.But on N2,it is opposite,the amplitude of the lip makeup was greater than the eye makeup and no makeup.Two experiments manipulated female makeup conditions to explore the effects on facial processing and analyzed gender differences.The preliminary conclusion is: Compared to the lip,the eye has greater impact on the facial processing.
