| Yan Lianke’s literary works are various. He once created the “Marketplace Novels” and the “Military Novels”.After a long journey of exploring,he decided to select a road of his own from the creation experience of more than ten years that relying on the Palou Mountains to create his own country world. And the local literary works have indeed become the representative of his personalities and achievements. However,Yan Lianke’s novel The Passage of Time published in 1998 is still the backdrop of the Palou Mountains, and it is still the peasant hero who worked hard in field, but the novel was organized in a new atmosphere. In this novel, the ultimate description of the plight of the bottom peasants was accompanied by the writer’s great sympathy and grief, and the pursuit of power in the countryside was transformed from the perspective of rational judgment to the narration of the non-human good and evil.Meanwhile,a large number of miserable incidents were elaborated in particular to render and portray the formidable vitality that the peasants had inspired in the midst of desperation. Therefore, this novel is of crucial importance both to Yan Lianke’s own creative process and to the tradition of Chinese contemporary local literary creation.Almost every subsequent novel which caused a great sensation or controversy contained some content of the Bible ever since The Passage of Time.Although some researchers have paid attention to this, few researchers described The Passage of Time’s deconstruction and reconstruction of the Bible and the intertextuality between the two heterogeneous texts. Therefore, few researchers described the subjective factors presented in Yan Lianke’s local literature as represented by The Passage of Time. This article intends to use the theory of intertextuality as a research method to analyze the heterogeneity and the dialogism between the two texts from two main aspects, discussing how Yan Lianke deconstructed and reconstructed the Moses’ images and how Yan Lianke grafted and quoted the Bible’s contents and stories, and then to analyze and summarize the uniqueness of “the land of milk and honey” constructed by Yan Lianke by means of placing Yan Lianke and The Passage of Time in the tradition of Chinese contemporary local literature creation.Based on the above discussion, this paper draws a conclusion that Yan Lianke relied on the Palou Mountains to create his own country world which was full of strange sufferings and the absurdity of fighting destiny, but anyway,Yan Lianke gave up all expectations of the outside world and always let the characters stick in the closed, ruined rural world, even for this reason, the enthusiasm of the peasant heroes for the land led to the tragedy of using their own bodies to interpret the dramatic dramas one after another, and they would never be able to obtain the ultimate salvation as Moses led the Israel nation marching out of Egypt. |
