Research Of Buddhist Charity Activities In The North In Northern Song Dynasty

Buddhism has always faced the public with the concept of “compassion for the sake of the people”and played a leading and guiding positive role in some charitable activities.Especially the rapid development of economy had led to Buddhist charity work during the Song period,In order to stabilize the social situation and alleviate class contradictions,the Northern Song Dynasty government adopted a positive Buddhism policy,such as visiting temples,building Buddhist temples,publishing Buddhist scriptures,supporting Buddhist causes and communication of Buddhism that had promoted the development of Buddhism.There were also many aspects of the economic origin of Buddhist philanthropy,including the economy of the temple itself besides the government's bounty and donation,private donations we can't ignore.The Buddhist charity work was also very broad,both in awe of life and the social care of the state of mind.There will be three parts in the article.First,this paper introduces the basic condition of Buddhism charity in the north Northern Song dynasty from the government's Buddhist policy and the folk literati's attitude towards Buddhist charity.In the second part,we will analyze the economic source in the north Northern Song Dynasty Buddhist charity,which includes government donation,alms giving and the collective operation of the temple and the economy of the temple itself.In the third part,we will focus on studying the main public welfare activities of Buddhism charity,which give priority to Futian hospital also life care,Social concern and spiritual comfort of charitable activities.Through a series of research and analysis,we will make systematic summary and induction of Buddhist charity in the north in the Northern Song Dynasty to show the Buddhist charity of Song Dynasty more clearly.
