Discussion On Qianzhi KOU’s Daoist Thoughts

Qianchi KOU(A.D.365-448)conducted the reform of Daoism in the Northern and Southern Dynasties,and made Tianshi Taoism official religion in the Northern Dynasty.He was an important character in Chinese Taoist history with his efforts on the revolution of Taoism from its primitive form to its official form.This study elaborates Qianzhi KOU’s thoughts from three parts.The first parts resumes the context in which his thoughts took form.The second part emphasizes the contents of his Daoist thoughts,including the Confucianist thoughts、the Buddhist doctrines、practice methods from Immortal Daosim and then the contents of his Daoist revolution.The third part expounds Qianzhi KOU’s social status and inspiration for modern development of Daoism from two aspects: firstly,Qianzhi KOU’s Daoist revolution had made Daoism the official religion in the Northern Dynasty;secondly,with his thoughts representing the theoretical integration of Confuciusm、Buddhism and Daoism,Qianzhi KOU had been able to make the practical integration of the three Chinese philosophies by promoting Daoist revolution;thirdly,Qianzhi KOU’s Daoist revolution and his thoughts may enlight modern development of Daoism,especially for overcoming the obstacles that Daoism currently encounters.In conclusion,Qianzhi KOU’s thoughts were a mixture of Confuciusm、Buddhism and Daoism and in return catalyzed the mixture of theses three Chinese phylosophies.His Daoist revolution promoted the development process of Daoism and influenced profoundly the Daoist development and the composition of the Daoist culture for posterity.
