Johann Baptist Cramer was a well-known musician in the west from the 18 th to the 19 th century.His piano etudes have important value in the history of piano art and are still circulating.This article focused on the study of “60 Cramer Piano Etudes” edited by Hans von Bülow.First of all,we gave a general review and the background discussion for the etudes from three parts: Cramer's artistic life,the history of the development and evolution of the piano etudes,and the creation of Cramer's piano etudes.Then we analyzed the main musical characteristics,such as musical structure and melody rhythm,of the 60 etudes to explore the artistic style of Cramer's etude and made a comprehensive and detailed classification of the performance techniques used in the etude to give a technical analysis and performance guidance.Finally,we discussed the historical roles and values of Cramer's piano etude through the study that how Cramer affected and was affected by the other musicians.
