In English teaching of senior high school,vocabulary teaching is very important.However,vocabulary teaching in senior high school is time-consuming and inefficient at present.When facing such situation,the author believes it is necessary to change the current vocabulary teaching methods.Therefore,the purpose of this thesis is to find out the problems in vocabulary teaching through questionnaires,and to explore the efficient,interesting and applicable teaching methods.The author hopes to provide some inspiration and guidance for the future English vocabulary teaching through investigation and analysis.In this study,Teaching Theory of Constructivism is the theoretical framework of the thesis.Students construct vocabulary knowledge systems by themselves,and English teachers introduce some cultural knowledge to students,so as to let students learn vocabulary knowledge through cooperative learning and communitive activities.The aim of this research is to solve the following questions:1)What are the problems of English vocabulary teaching in Jiang'an middle school?2)Are the English vocabulary teaching strategies based on teaching theory of constructivism effective in Jiang'an middle school?3)What implications of English vocabulary teaching can we gain from the research?In order to solve the above three questions,the study was conducted with 110 students who come from two parallel classes in senior two and taught by the author of this thesis in Jiang' an Middle School in Sichuan Province.The main research methods are tests and questionnaires.55 students belong to the control class,and 55 students belongs to the experimental class.The students of the control class were taught in traditional vocabulary teaching methods,while the students of experimental class were taught with the Vocabulary Teaching strategies based on Teaching Theory of Constructivism.The study lasts 19 weeks.The aim of using the questionnaires was to understand the problems which students and teachers have in English vocabulary teaching.Through pretest and posttest,the author wanted to check whether the strategies were effective or not.After the experiment,the author of the thesis analyzed the relevant data and carried out the statistics analysis.The results of experiment showed that the strategies based on Teaching Theory of Constructivism were effective.According to the experimental results,the author can conclude that the strategies based on Teaching Theory of Constructivism are very important which can provide some enlightenment for English vocabulary teaching in the future,and it also has reference value for the future research of English vocabulary teaching in senior high school.Because the number of experimental samples is small and the experimental time is short,this study has some limitations.What is more,many problems about the thesis need to be solved.
