Vocabulary is one of the three basic elements (pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar) of language and also the fundamental materials to form language mansion. Without vocabulary, we can not express what we think; without adequate vocabulary, we also can not listen, speak, read and write, and not to mention communicate efficiently with others. So we can see the great importance of vocabulary. The syllabus of high school specifically regulates that vocabulary teaching is the essential part of English teaching. Linguists like Lewis advocate that vocabulary teaching should be the central part. Therefore, some scholars, L2 teachers and language educators have done a significant research on vocabulary teaching and made a great contribution to it. We can not deny that the traditional vocabulary teaching methods, just like Bloomfield's audio-lingual method, Chomsky's transformational grammar have been playing a great important role in vocabulary teaching. However, they are inadequate. To some English beginners, especially the college students, it is hard to memorize the meaning and form of vocabulary and difficult to distinguish some similar words. How to teach vocabulary efficiently becomes an obstacle confronted by English teachers. Connectionism, as a practical teaching method, is trying to overcome the difficulty. This paper centered on the connectionism theory, states the approach of vocabulary learning and teaching. According to connectionism theory, words are not isolated from each other but dependent on the relationship so as to form a network in terms of its meaning and form. In the semantic network, words are connected by means of its sense relations which mainly include synonymy, antonymy, hyponymy, and etc. While in morphological network, words are associated by its formation rules as derivation and compounding, and etc.Words are semantically and morphologically connected in the network. Therefore, this thesis proposes a new method: integrated method in guidance to vocabulary teaching.
