In order to enhance the understanding of foreign education assessment and workplace assessment, and to provide viable solutions to the translation difficulties of the texts of the similar type, this thesis has selected five articles from International Encyclopedia of Education and translated them into Chinese, and meanwhile it has carried out a case study of the difficulties in this translation process.According to Katharina Reiss' s classification of text types, the five articles are informative texts;since the skopos theory put forward by Hans J.Vermeer can well guide the translating of the texts of this type,it is chosen to guide this translation activity. To produce a readable target text with the same information as that of the source text, the author has encountered translation difficulties mainly at the lexical and syntactical levels. For translation difficulties such as the contradiction between abstract and concrete words, translatability obstacles, responding translation techniques, such as extension, substitution and conversion, are made use of.As for the translation of long and complicated sentences, techniques, such as cutting, splitting, transposition, are employed accordingly.Through this translation task, the author draws a conclusion that it is viable and feasible to apply the skopos theory proposed by Vermeer to the translation of the source text, and that this practice can serve as a reference of how to apply Vermeer's skopos theory to the translation of the other informative texts.
