Report On The Simulated C-E Consecutive Interpreting Of Press Conferences Held By Qingdao Municipal Government In 2017

As a significant vehicle to deliver information and policies issued by governments,governmental press conference plays an active role in publicizing government affairs.With the development of globalization and socioeconomic improvement in China,participants of governmental press conference are various and an increasing number of people with exotic linguistic and cultural backgrounds also attend governmental press conferences in China.As a result,consecutive interpreting（CI）of governmental press conference gained more attention.In order to discuss CI strategies of governmental press conference,the author selects two governmental press conferences held by Qingdao Municipal Government in 2017 and makes simulated CI practice according to the audio files.Under the theme of“Preparation of the 15^th China International Sailing Expo”and“Successful Application for the UNESCO City of Film”,the duration of the two governmental press conferences is nearly one hour.With the help of assistants,the author conducted the simulated C-E CI practice by using equipment in the Simultaneous Interpreting Laboratory.For the sake of simulating real press conferences and collecting some valuable feedbacks,some teachers and students of the College of Translation Studies at Qufu Normal University were invited.After the practice,the author copied the audio files and wrote transcripts of them.At the same time,the author strove to collect feedbacks from different people,which made a foundation for the report.The report consists of five chapters.The first chapter generally introduces background of the report;the second and the third chapter describe specific background and process of the simulated CI practice;the fourth chapter analyzes good examples and mistakes in interpretation of the practice under the guidance of some interpreting theories such as Interpretive Theory of Translation as well as Adaption Theory and summarizes some CI strategies of governmental press conferences;the last chapter concludes major findings and limitations of the report.Through the practice,the author summarizes interpreting strategies of abbreviation and culture-loaded words at lexical level and non-subject sentence and redundancy at syntactic level under the guidance of Interpretive Theory of Translation and Adaption Theory.The report aims to provide theoretical and practical support for governmental press conference interpreting,interpreter training and further development of interpreting theories in the future and promote exchanges between China and foreign countries.
