| Consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting are two importantbranches of interpreting. Simultaneous interpreting, despite its highly timeliness, isusually not accurate enough especially on many formal occasions. Consecutiveinterpreting, however, could keep an excellent balance, which makes it a better option.After China joining the WTO, Chinese to English (C-E) consecutive interpreting isbecoming more and more important.This report, through a simulated C-E consecutive interpreting(a press conference)mainly analyses the necessity, principles and skills of sentence shift in C-Econsecutive interpreting, aiming to help improve the quality of C-E consecutiveinterpreting and make some contribution to the theory of consecutive interpreting.This report consists of an introduction, a main body and a conclusion. Its maincontents are as follows:The first part is the introduction, which mainly introduces the structure andsignificance of this report.The second part is the main body, which consists of three chapters:Chapter One is mainly about a brief introduction of this simulated task, includingits background and the detailed demands of its simulated customer. Besides, thesimulated text type and characteristics is also analyzed in this chapter.Chapter Two mainly describes the process of this simulated task. This part gives abrief account of interpreter selection, preparation before the task, duration of the task,means of quality control, and customer reviews step by step.Chapter Three focuses on a detailed analysis of this simulated task. In this chapter,the necessity of sentence shift in C-E consecutive interpreting is firstly talked about,followed by related principles and skills. Then, according to the above three aspects,this simulated consecutive interpreting is detailed analyzed, including both thesuccess and deficiencies.The last part is the conclusion, which makes a summary to the preceding critique,including the scope of application and some of its limitations. |
