Ma Boliang is a vanguard figure in Hong Kong's modernist literature.He founded the New Trend of Literature and Art in 1955,promoted a large number of western.modernist literary works,and systematically introduced modernist literary trends to Hong Kong and became the origin of Hong Kong's modernist school.His literary activities are culturally "interstable" due to the discrete experience from Shanghai to Hong Kong.In Shanghai/Hong Kong,the traditional/modem schema implies a modern literary tradition that spans 1949.As a literary person from Shanghai to Hong Kong,Ma Boliang's literary achievements closely connect with the literary qualifications experienced in Shanghai's turbulent environment.In the 1940s of Shanghai,Ma Boliang has a multi-identity,that are reporter,writer,and critic.He founded the literary periodicalLiterary Trends and the movie magazine Mercury Lights to foster new literary youth and carry out literary creation.Sentimentalist modernist creative techniques have been based on inmovation,covering the core of realism in the form of modernism,and exposing and presenting all aspects of the Shanghai metropolis.He has a wide range of critical views and literary history.The critical column of The Novel Review Monthly was unique in Shanghai's literary circles at that time and he commented on Eileen Chang's works firstly before Fu Lei.Ma Boliang's literary activity is unique in that his creative style is similar to that of Shanghai's urban spirit.He is a prodigal son of the city's sound and power,but also an opponent who tends to the left and has a critical spirit of realism.The dispute between the prodigal and the devil is the characteristic of he and the whole Shanghai.Therefore,this article attempts to outline Ma Boliang's literary practice and discover the character that are covered by the history of literature.Through his editing,creation,and commentary activities,this passage is aim to explore the literary ecology and production mechanism at that time,to restore the literary scenes at that time,and to outline the historical situation of the Shanghai literary world in the 1940s.The first chapter is an overview of the research subjects.The first section outlines Shanghai's cultural atmosphere in the 1940s.The second section outlines Ma Boliang's literary path.The third section focuses on the duality of Ma Boliang's dual personality-prodigal son and inverse son-formed in the urban environment of Shanghai.The second chapter mainly discusses the Shanghai literary world and Ma Boliang's periodicals in the 1940s.The first section explores the relationship between the Literary Trends and the left-wing trend of thought.It is presented through three aspects:the editorial idea of the Literary Trends,the original landscape of the writers'group,and the value orientation of critical realism.The second section examines the relationship between the Mercury Lights and modernist trends of thought.The Mercury Lights.has an important cultural significance in showing Shanghai's urban landscape and sustenance of the public's sentiments.The third chapter focuses on analyzing Ma Boliang's literary works.The first section explores Ma Boliang's writing of the underlying subsistence scene.The second section explores the urban landscape of Shanghai that was created in his works by comparing it with the Midnight and Shanghai Foxtrot.The third section focuses on Ma Boliang's creation of children's literature.The fourth section summarizes the duality of Ma Boliang's works,and explores the reasons why Ma Boliang's works present complex appearance based on individual life in the great era.The forth chapter explores Ma Boliang's criticism column and social activities.The first section gives an overall overview of the column of The Novel Review Monthly.As a critical column that was quite original in the literary world at the time,The Novel Review Monthly presents Ma Boliang's concept of literary criticism,the practice of criticism,and the power of new literature.The cultivation has played an important role.In the second section,it returned to the historical scene and restored the literary ecology of the literary world in Shanghai at that time through.its critical interaction.The third section analyzes Ma Boliang's criticism of Eileen Chang in detail.As the first person to review Eileen Chang's works,Ma Boliang's criticism has a keen sense of criticism and a literary history perspective.The conclusion concludes Ma Boliang's multi-literary practice and defines the significance of his literary history.Ma Boliang brought the modern Chinese literary tradition of the 1940s to Hong Kong in the 1950s.Under the "Shanghai/Hong Kong"and "traditional/modern" schemas implied in his literary activities,it was not merely modernist or urban literature,but a modern literary tradition that spans 1949.
