China plays an increasingly significant role in the international stage. When we participate in various fields of global affairs,it is of great importance to acquaint with laws of different countries. Therefore,a faithful and detailed Chinese version of the foreign law is required. This report is based on the E-C translation of Law of Mines of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. It is aimed to propose some practical methods for the translation of mineral laws.Guided by Nida's functional equivalence theory, the author analyzes some intractable problems occurring in the translation of this law,and uses different translation strategies to cope with these problems. At the word level, the author refers to professional documents to determine the technical meanings of legal and mineral terms, and then makes term tables to keep their Chinese version consistent in the whole text.At the sentence level, the author decomposes long sentences into clauses in order to reduce the difficulty of understanding the source text.At the discourse level, the author avoids informal and colloquial expressions so as to make the language style of the translated version as rigorous as that of the source text.It is concluded that,in order to ensure a high-quality Chinese version, the translator should make full preparation before translation and expand related knowledge,so as to flexibly deal with problems in the translation process on the basis of mastering translation theory and skills.
