This translation report focuses on the third chapter of Research on Bilingual Teacher Education: The Professional Qualities of Bilingual Teachers and Bilingual Teachers' Ability Standards by Fang Xiaohua and Fu Dongming. It was published by Beijing Language and Culture University Press in 2014.As the general research project supported by National Social Science Fund on 11 th Five-Year plan(education discipline),it is worthwhile translating into English for the outside world to know about Chinese bilingual education. The selected chapter has four sections,a total of47,000 Chinese characters, including the new curriculum reform and professional development of teachers, teachers' quality and teachers' ability standards, bilingual teachers' quality and bilingual teachers' ability standards as well as bilingual teachers' evaluation system. As a whole, the chapter provides a general view of the contemporary bilingual teacher education in China. The selected chapter is an informative text, whose language is serious but elegant, standard but rigorous. As informative texts focus on the transmission of information, their translation should follow the principle of “authenticity first.”Accordingly, the translator chooses the Skopos theory to guide the translation practice and takes the Skopos rule as the primary principle. In addition, the translator adopts the translation strategies of domestication and foreignization to convey the information expressed in the original text through the methods of literal translation, liberal translation, division, combination and rewriting, and shift.
