Chinese idioms are the commonly use phrases which the Chinese people use for a better communication in day to day life.As most of the Japanese intermediate level leaners have an interest towards the Chinese idioms,they hope to develop their Chinese language level proficiency further by studying Chinese idioms,but it is not easy to learn Chinese idioms as most of them has been originated from historical society in China.And also due to the difference in between the Chinese and Japanese society development background,Japanese leaners have to acquire the Chinese idioms by understanding the contextual meaning.This research use the theory of "vacancy" and analyze the "A Course in Chinese Colloquial Idioms" which has been designed for the intermediate and advanced foreign Chinese language leaners.Further,this research focuses on the difficulties of Japanese language leaner in leaning Chinese idioms and the teaching strategies can be used during the idioms teaching process.Similarly,the idioms appeared in the text book are analyzed by using the "vacancy" theory and try to make a distinctive review on the difficulties faced by the Japanese leaner in leaning Chinese idioms in order to find out the suitable teaching strategies can be used during the idioms teaching.This research consists of four chapters:the first chapter is the introduction,mainly describes on the research background and the significance of this research.The second chapter is the literature review.Under this chapter the author mainly discusses on the concept of the "vacancy" theory,the definitions of the idioms used in this research,similarly summarize the earlier research work on the idioms teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,the research on "A Course in Chinese Colloquial Idioms" and the applicability of the vacancy theory in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The third chapter mainly focuses on the content of this research.Under this chapter the author analysis of the idioms in the "A Course in Chinese Colloquial Idioms".As well as describes the teaching content of the course book by summarizing the lesson one to ten in the course book in order to categorize them with using the vacancy theory.The difficulties of Japanese learners in leaning Chinese idioms which the author found out during the internship program are categorize in to three aspects named semantic,grammatical and pragmatic.The forth chapter is the research summary and it makes some the teaching suggestions of the Chinese idioms teaching for intermediate level Japanese leaner.This study uses the vacancy theory to classify the difficulties faced by the Japanese intermediate leaner in learning Chinese idioms and puts forward a teaching strategy scheme explained with the Japanese terms and also summarize some suggestions for the idioms teaching:the attention should be paid to the teaching semantics,grammar and pragmatics teaching.Similarly,it should combines several aspects of teaching:Comparison teaching with the native language(Japanese),the teaching related to the cultural connotation of idiomatic expressions,increase the knowledge related to the grammatical structure of idioms;summarize the different categories of Chinese idioms,design the idioms vocabulary list;increase the pragmatics teaching and encourage the students to use the Chinese idioms in day today life.
