This is a report about the difficulties and solutions in my translation of the first eight chapters of Circus Mirandus.Circus Mirandus is classified as children's literature, which requires the translator to adopt words characteristic of children's language, simplify long sentences that have complicated structures, and use rhetorical devices properly.Meanwhile, this also requires the translator to adopt certain strategies to make the translation well accepted by young readers.Reception Theory has been chosen as the guiding principle in this translation practice, which includes putting the children readers in the first place, properly filling the blank of the text while living up to the horizon of expectation,so as to make the translation understood and accepted by children readers whose mother tongue is Chinese. In this report, strategies have been discussed mainly from three levels: lexical, syntactical and rhetoric. As a whole, this report attempts to demonstrate how to translate children's literature under the guidance of Reception Theory. This report consists of six parts. The first part gives a description of the task. The second part tells the process of the task. And the third part reviews the study on the translation of children's literature. In the fourth part,a detailed interpretation is given on Reception Theory. The fifth part is an analysis on cases, which illustrates the difficulties and solutions in this translation. And the last part is a summary of the translation practice.
