From Contrast To Fusion

Focusing on Li Peifu's novels,we can find that "the Plain" has always been in his view and under his pen.He prefers to use a contrast narrative mode in reviewing "the Plain" and reexamining the city,considering the characters' living space and their mode of existence,representing the characters' struggle between the desire and the ideal.The human being and its survival is the core of Li Peifu's narrative.Li Peifu emotionally tends to take men as subject of life.He reveals the national character issue and the rich possibilities of life by contrasting individuals with groups and with the individual itself.As to the human being's survival,Li Peifu deducts it in a vast space and a wide time.Through the contrast of the past and the present,the country and the city,he presents their inquiry of the meaning of life in front of the ultimate proposition of life and death,after their long journey which is full of rises and falls and which relies on the wisdom of Killing with Kindness.It is the existence of the objective world,the Taoist culture rooted in the Central Plains,and Li Peifu's personal experiences and preferences that have worked together to form this contrast narrative mode.This narrative mode constitutes his unique feature,and also distinguishes him from other Henan writers and other fictionists of local literature.However,every kind of narrative mode has its own shortcomings,and this defect may be infinitely enlarged when it is used more than once.Thus,Li Peifu has been trying to break through this narrative mode,and turn into the direction of fusion.
