English reading teaching always has been given great prominence in senior high school.However,the situation of English reading class and students' reading abilities in senior high school are not satisfactory.The author found out the problems which existed in English reading teaching and learning and came up with Activity List Guiding Mode(ALG mode)to solve the problems.ALG mode conforms to the concept of the New Curriculum Reform,which advocates “Activity List” in English reading teaching and guides students to explore actively,inquiry independently and learn cooperatively in activities.Based on the research about ALG mode and English reading teaching at home and abroad,the author discovered there was still a few researches related to the ALG mode to English reading teaching.This paper elaborated the construction of ALG mode on the theoretical basis of Constructivism Theory,Cooperative Learning Theory and Theories of Zone of Proximal Develoment,and the experiment procedures of ALG mode in senior high school English reading were described in detail so as to motivate students' reading interests,cultivate students to master effective and reasonable reading strategies,as well as improve their reading achievements.This paper adopted questionnaires and tests as main instruments.The author selected 120 students from Pingliang No.1 Middle School as experimental subjects,and did an empirical research to test whether the senior high school students' English reading strategies and achievements could be improved by the application of ALG mode.All the experimental data were collected and analyzed by EXCEL 2016 and SPSS(21.0 edition).The findings shows that students' usage of reading strategies has improved significantly in experiment class(M=3.489 SD=0.752),and their English reading achievements has been improved obviously(M=25.1833,P=0.000).Therefore,the application of ALG mode to English reading teaching has substantial value in cultivating students' reading strategies and reading ability.Based on the research results,the author put forward some suggestions to English reading teaching.Besides,the author proposed the limitation of this research for further study.
