| This report describes the whole translation process from background information to the author's reflections on the translation.The source text is excerpted from Xiao Xiao Hu(Roaring Tiger),a children's novel written by Tang Hong,who is a writer in Tianshui City,Gansu Province.Telling a story about how Roaring Tiger,together with his friends,saves his villagers after going through innumerable hardships,the novel sings the praises of friendship,honesty and kindness and at the same time castigates people's avarice for money.In view of children's understanding and aesthetic standards,the novel is written in vivid and neat language by using such figures of speech as similes and personification,as well as onomatopoetic words,exclamation,etc.The report consists of five parts.In the first part,the importance of the globalization of Chinese culture and the purpose of translating Xiao Xiao Hu(Roaring Tiger)are presented.The second part summarizes the characteristics of Children's novel and linguistic features of the excerpted chapters.In the third part,the translation process is described.The translator learned about the background of the novel by reading its postscript and the linguistic style of children by reading parallel texts.During translation,the translator,guided by the Skopos theory,adopted free and literal translation methods and various translation skills,such as conversion and combination.When finished,the translation was revised by the translator,her peers,her advisor and target readers.The fourth part is case analysis,in which translation of the names of major characters,onomatopoetic words,idioms etc.are analyzed.The fifth part summarizes the author's reflections on the translation and the inspiration of the translation for future study and practice.By translating the novel and writing the report,the author has an overall review of the translation strategies and techniques learned before.Inspiration for future translation of Children's novel can also be drawn from the report. |
