In this paper,three villages in different geographical areas with divergent civilizations and regional cultures were selected to make a detailed analysis to the graduation work The Vanishing Villages,such as China’s Easternmost island-wolfberry Island featuring fishery civilization,Minqin Huanghui village featuring typical oasis civilization and agricultural civilization at the edge of Tengger Desert and nomadic civilization village in Tongren Tibetan Autonomous Region of Southern Qinghai Province,so as to document villages which will be gone and sing an elegy to villages which will disappear.Fei Xiaotong conducted field investigation to three Yunnan villages which mainly got engaged in handicraft industry,agriculture and commercial industry to make comparison,so as to gain overall understanding towards villages in China from the perspective of diversity;and scholar Reid Field also chose four villages to gain overall understanding towards folk cultures and modern cultures.The work selected three typical villages in the southeastern and northwestern China,such as Gansu Minqin Huanghui Village,known as disappeared oasis,a relocated village on the edge of desert,which was recorded by the methods of social inetrventio and folk ecological documentary,to explore environmental protection and ecological refugees;lost and left-Houtuowan Village in Zhoushan Wolfberry Island,an abandoned village in island,which was recorded by the methods of village image and poetic expression,focusing on “hollowing-out” of village and left-behind elderly as well as the loss of traditional lifestyle;poetic life-Qinghai Regong Wutyn Village,an ethnographical and oral history in the field,which is a village full of faith like the Peach Garden village located in the mountains-a documentary.This paper summarizes context and contents of relevant rural literature documentary from the perspectives of social intervention and folk writing,poetic expression and record image,ethnography and oral history in the fields,by combining theoretical thinking,field investigation and literature survey methods,to analyze the influence of village changes on people and explore the survival conditions of three typical villages in documentary.The paper,through the comparison between the sense of self-sufficiency and sense of loss,the disappearance and survival of villages,showsChina’s villages against the background of social changes through artistic expression of the stream of consciousness and the demonstration of rural landscapes,combined with the analysis of interviews.The paper has some historical values and research significance from the perspective of anthropology,and tries to adopts stylized expression technique,so it belongs to experimental documentary work. |
