A Study On The Artistic Characteristics Of Oshima Nagisa’s Film

As the standard-bearer of Japanese new wave,Nagisa Oshima occupied an very important place in Japan and even the global filmdom.Based on the strong social criticism and consideration of humanity,his movies formed an unique author-movie-style.Sticking to this style,Nagisa Oshima also tried to make a self-breakthrough.Pioneer spirit and experimental property could be obviously displayed in his works.Meanwhile,he strongly criticized and responsed to Japanese traditional movies as well as the whole society using his works and practice.His works experienced three important phases,during which his direction style exhibited different characteristics.However,some of his properties,for instance,focusing on the current politics,deep exploitation of humanity and rebellion have yet been changed.Due to this consistent value of creation,he was honored as ‘The Movie Warrior’.In this work,we investigated the style,aesthetics connotation and significance of his movies basing on the Japanese post-war culture and the movie environment,i.e.the creation environment of his movies.There were four chapters in this article,including background,research status,methodology and significance.In the first chapter(introduction),in order to introduce the creation environment of his movies and the current movie ecology,the Japanese post-war culture and movie environment were introduced.In the second chapter,firstly,we made a basic description of his lifetime and creation stages;secondly,we demonstrated the influence of French novel movies on him.The third chapter was the main part of this thesis,where a more deep and comprehensive understanding of his movies and creation style was proposed basing on the movie surface and aesthetics connotation.In the last chapter,we reconsidered his movies and creation experiment,and thus revealed the relative value and significance.Meanwhile,we proposed a reference and a reconsideration of the development of Chinses movies combining with the current conditions of Chinese filmdom.Nagisa Oshima brought the subjects and elements such as war,crime,sex and death into Japanese post-war filmdom through his unique and changable methods.He owned enterprising and passionate creative consciousness,and made a strong resistance and criticism and to Japanese society and Japanese troditional movies.What he did not only injected fresh blood into the recover and development of Japanese movies,but also significantly affected some of the directors from then on.To date,although he has passed away for quite long time,his spirit left in his classical works forever,which deserved our learning and adoption.
