| The novel All Quiet on the Western Front written by Remarque had set up popular records and triggered a storm after being translated in china in October 1929.The anti-war thought embodied in Remarque’s novel had caused a heated discussion in the 1930s china.For one thing,it was absorbed into anti-war camp and widely spreading.On the other hand,with the situation of China became increasingly severe,it was been criticized and prohibited.This thesis is divided into three parts as follow:The first part is the analyzing of the communication of Remarque’s All Quiet on the Western Front and The Road Back in the 1930s China,including a sales boom of the two novels in China.These two novels were adapted into American film and broadcasted in China popularly.Also Chinese playwright had adapted All Quiet on the Western Front for drama and the performance was popularly accepted in China.Secondly,by introducing the criticism of the Chinese version of All Quiet on the Western Front,then analyze the phenomenon of translation in the 1930s China,and also points out the problem at that time.The third part discuss the acceptation of All Quiet on the Wester Front in the 1930s China after the anti-war literature context,the left-wing camp and the KMT official.In the context of anti-war literature,the translator expressed their desire of anti-war,the reader look it as anti-war weapon,the writer had expanded their influence by its reputation.With the active introduction of the All Quiet on the Western Front,at the same time the left-wing camp also criticized it.The attitude of the Kuomintang official was from "non-enthusiasm" to "prohibition". |
