A Report On The Simulated Consecutive Interpretation Of International Forum “Obama Health Care Reform:Myth And Reality” At Princeton University

This thesis is a report of simulated consecutive interpretation from English to Chinese,which adopts International Forum “Obama Health Care Reform:Myth and Reality” at Princeton University as the case study and analyzes the application of consecutive interpretation of interview programs under the guidance of Skopos Theory with related specific interpreting strategies such as omission,conversion,free interpreting,etc.This report consists of four chapters.The first chapter is task description.It mainly introduces the background of this interview program,some basic information of Obama Health Care Reform and the interviewee Professor Uwe Ernst Reinhardt as well as the task requirements.The second chapter deals with process description,including the pre-interpretation preparation,interpretation process and post-interpretation review.The pre-interpretation preparation mainly introduces features of general interview programs,features of consecutive interpretation in general interview programs and difficulties that need to be solved in this task.The third chapter involves theoretical framework and case analysis.In this chapter,the interpreter introduces the basic information of Skopos Theory and its three principles.Guided by Skopos Theory,the interpreter adopts some interpreting strategies and analyzes some typical cases at lexical level and syntactical level.The fourth chapter is conclusion,in which the interpreter sums up the gains and deficiencies after this simulated consecutive interpretation.
