This is a translation practice report. The writer chooses Author's Note and the first two chapters(about 11,000 words)of Hard Choices as the source text to work on.The book is written by Hillary Rodham Clinton, the former Secretary of State of the USA.It mainly tells how Hillary joined Obama's team and became Secretary of State of United States and her experiences. The report first briefly explains the reason why the text is chosen and introduces the background information of the author and the book, and then analyzes the language features with Newmark's Text Typology Theory on macro and micro levels. After that, the translation process is described. The key point of the report lies in the analysis of the translation cases which are divided on three levels: lexical level, syntactic level and cultural level, focusing on how to keep the text style and express the author's opinions. On lexical level, translation skills such as conversion, amplification and omission are used while on syntactic level, reorganizing the sentence structure and syntactic linearity are adopted. As for relative background information, adding translator's notes is mainly adopted. At last, the whole translation process of this practice is summed up and the errors made in the translation process are also described in this part.Besides, suggestions for future study are given.
