Energy crisis is always a hot topic in the world,which has been a daunting challenge to our country for a long time.With the development of economic globalization,the exchanges of science and technology among different countries become more and more frequent,which motivates an increasing number of people to attach great importance to English for science and technology(EST).This is a report on English-Chinese translation about several chapters of Alternative energy,which is one of famous American science books For Dummies.The translation report analyses and discusses EST translation characteristics,from the perspective of alternative energy.On the premise of the text typology advocated by German scholar K·Reiss,authenticity and authority of information functional text are emphasized,which decide to use related translation strategies.Meanwhile,this translation report chooses Vermeer's Skopos theory as a goal,coinciding with its fidelity and coherence rule during translation process,in order to enhance the readability of target text as well as to express the same original meaning in target language.Guided by related translation theories,this report summarize writers'own translation perception,and put some related translation theories principles and skills into practice.Its goal is to improve the writer's translation ability about related topics in futureand strive for setting a good example for the following scholars who want to research related topics.The translation report consists of six chapters.The first chapter is about project description,which describes the project background,text type as well as book introduction.The second chapter is about translation theories,putting EST related translation theory into project practice,such as K·Reiss's text typology and Vermeer's Skopos theory.The third chapter is about translation process,including three stages,which is preparation,translation and proofreading respectively.The fourth chapter is about translation difficulties,for example choosing words or dealing with long sentences in the project.The fifthchapter is translation strategies,analyze how to use related translation methods and skills pointedly according to specific translation material cases.The last chapter is about conclusion.
