Objective This study aims to evaluate the effect of Intradermal acupuncture on Chemotherapy-induced Peripheral Neuropathy in patients with gastrointestinal cance. And this study observed the incidence, time, severity and nerve conduction velocity of chemotherapy-related peripheral neurotoxic symptoms in patients with gastrointestinal cancer after concurrent intradermal chemotherapy. In order to explore the new idea of treatment of CIPN with TCM and further find a new method that can effectively reduce the incidence and severity of patient CIPN,improve the quality of life of patients, with good safety, patient compliance and high satisfaction. Methods Collect 66 postoperative patients with stage II to III gastrointestinal cancer in Shuguang Hospital or Zhongshan Hospital who are planning to undergo chemotherapy.Divide these patients into experimental group and control group randomly and equally. The patients in control group received chemotherapy according to the internationally accepted postoperative chemotherapy rules, and the patients in experimental group were treated with cutaneous acupuncture on the basis of the control group.Acupuncture patients with in acupoints Waiguan(SJ-5),Shousanli(LI-10),Quchi(LI-11),Zusanli(ST-36),Sanyinjiao(SP-6)and keep for 24 hours per week till 3 weeks after the last chemotherapy.Observe and record the incidence, severity, occurrence cycle of CIPN and clinical symptoms of the nervous system, changes in nerve conduction velocity and safety indexes of patients in the two groups. Results Incidence: There was no significant difference in acute CIPN between groups(P > 0.05).The incidence of chronic CIPN(paresthesia)was 42.42% in experimental group, while it's 71.97% in control group(P < 0.05).When it comes to severe CIPN,the incidence is 2.94% in experimental group, and 12.90% in control group(P > 0.05).There was no significant difference between the two groups(P > 0.05)in motor function.Incidence period: the average incidence period of experimental group was 5.15 weeks, and the average incidence period of control group was 4.13 weeks.Severity: The severity of CIPN was less in experimental group than that in control group(z=-3.387,p=0.001).4.Nerve conduction velocity: sensory nerve conduction velocity(SCV)in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group(P < 0.05),while motor nerve conduction velocity(MCV)showed no significant difference between the two groups(P > 0.05).5.Correlation of evaluation results among different scales: conclusions among different scales show a high correlation. Conclusion 1.The Intradermal Acupuncture can reduce the incidence of oxaliplatin-induced peripheral nerve injury;2.Simultaneous application of Intradermal Acupuncture in chemotherapy can delay the occurrence of oxaliplatin-induced peripheral nerve injury;3.The Intradermal Acupuncture can reduce the severity of peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy to a certain extent;4.The clinical application of intradermal acupuncture in the prevention of CIPN is characterized by simple operation, definite curative effect,no obvious toxic and side effects, good patient compliance and good application prospect.
