Objective: To know the effect of chronic cough on the quality of children and their parents' life by questionnaires of PC-QOL(Parent-Proxy Quality of-Life)and LCQ(Leicester Cough Questionnaire),determine the clinical efficacy of chronic cough and the relevance between the disease and the quality of children and their parents' life;to compare the clinical efficacy of treating the disease by Children Chronic Cough Prescription and Chinese endotherapy plus auricular points treatment. Methods: 360 children with chronic cough were randomly divided into Group A and Group B in light of the diagnostic criteria of Western medicine and the dialectical criteria of TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine),Group A(Chinese endotherapy group)and Group B(Chinese endotherapy plus auricular points treatment group)including 180 cases respectively, with the treatment course of 14 days.According to age,PC-QOL questionnaire is used for 0-6 year-old children and LCQ questionnaire for 6-14 year-old children to evaluate the improvement of quality of life before and after the treatment, and then evaluate reliability and therapeutic efficacy through the two questionnaires. Results: 1.a total of 360 cases were included in the study,134 cases of children with chronic cough aged 6-14 year-old,132 cases of children with chronic cough aged 0-6year-old children(especially catching a cough after being infected)(36.7%),83 cases of upper airway cough syndrome(23.1%),73 cases of cough variant asthma(20.3%),62 cases of allergic cough(17.2%),8 cases of tic disorders(2.2%)and 2 cases of gastroesophageal reflux(0.5%).The quality of life of 0-6 year-old and 6-14 year-old children with different diseases were significantly different in physiology, psychology, society and total score(P < 0.05);quality of life of the parents of 0-6 year-old children with chronic cough were not significantly different(P > 0.05)2.By testing,as regards to the scores of PC-Qo L and LCQ questionnaires,Cranbach's ?was all >0.8,and KMOs was all >0.8,indicating that both questionnaires have good reliability and validity.3.Different diseases: There were significant differences in the quality of life between children aged 0-6 years and children aged 6-14 years in terms of physiological score, psychological score, social score and total score respectively(P<0.05),and the quality of life increased with TS<CVA<UACS<AC<PIC.The patients who coughed due to transient tic disorder had the worst quality of life, while the patients coughed after infection had the best quality of life. There was no significant difference in quality of life among parents of children aged 0-6 years with chronic cough(P>0.05),and there were significant differences in the quality of life among parents of children aged 6-14 years with chronic cough in terms of physiological score, social score and total score respectively(P<0.05).4.Different syndromes: There were differences in the quality of life among children aged 6-14 years with different syndromes of chronic cough(P<0.05),and children with wet cough had better quality of life than those with dry cough.5.Before and after treatment, the physiological, social, psychological and total scores of group A and group B were improved(P<0.05).As for children aged 0-6 years with chronic cough, the total score, physiological score and psychological score in group B were higher than those in group A(P<0.05),while for children aged 6-14 years, the total score, physiological score and social score of group B were higher than those in group A(P<0.05).6.Parents' quality of life: By testing,as regards to the scores of questionnaire on parents' quality of life,Cranbach's ? was all >0.8,and KMOs was all >0.8,indicating that this questionnaire has good reliability and validity. Before and after treatment, the physiological, social, psychological and total scores of group A and group B were improved(P<0.05),and the total score, physiological score and psychological score in group B were higher than those in group A(P<0.05).7.Total scores of each item in the two groups of questionnaires: The total scores of each item in the questionnaire were compared after two weeks of treatment. There were differences among the 19 questions in PC-Qo L and LCQ in terms of physiological score, psychological score, social score and total score(P<0.05).Conclusion: There is a close relationship between chronic cough and children's quality of life.Children's quality of life can be obviously improved in the physiological and psychological fields through the Chinese endotherapy and the Chinese endotherapy plusauricular points treatment, and the indexes of the Chinese endotherapy are better than those of the Chinese endotherapy plus auricular points treatment.
