A Literature Study On Jin Gui Yao Lue

Wu Qian edition of Jin Gui Yao Lue(Synopsis of the Golden Chamber)is compiled by Wu Qian in 1395A.D.during Ming Dynasty.The transcript content is found to have been a recension of the official small print edition(printed in 1096A.D.)of Jin Gui Yao Lue,making it one of the most valuable extant copies of Jin Gui Yao Lue in nowadays.Wu Qian edition has many differences from the popular Deng Zhen edition which is considered to be the official large print edition today.For a long time,Chinese medical circles research on Wu Qian edition is insufficient,and didn't really realize its value and status.The widely accepted version research framework of Jin Gui Yao Lue put forward by Mayanagi Makoto can not well explain the great differences between Wu Qian edition and Deng Zhen edition,so there are some disputes.To reveal and analyse the differences between Wu Qian edition and Deng Zhen edition,a comprehensive comparative study is conducted through the book title,chapter headings and prologue,prescription,herbs,clauses,annotations,language and character usage.The results found that:1.Wu Qian edition's content is more 'loyal' to the historical records.2.Wording and character choices showing chronological characteristics proved that Wu Qian edition textual content is older than the other extant editions.3.Wu Qian edition's format is rigorous,and the content retains a wealth of information,which is in line with official characteristics,while Deng Zhen edition's format is more casual,and the content has many errors,reflecting folk characteristics.4.Deng Zhen edition modified the official print,but left some traces of the modification.It can be concluded that Wu Qian edition remained official original form of the book to the maximum extent,which is the most authentic and authoritative recension in existence,while Deng Zhen edition contained comprehensive corrections,referring to the non-governmental recompiled version without official form.Therefore,the theoretical frameworks of Jin Gui Yao Lue should be re-divided into official Print versions and Newly Amended versions.The official Print versions are derived from Jin Gui Yao Lue official prints distributed by Northern Song Dynasty Imperials,currently with Wu Qian edition being the only version.The Newly Amended versions derived from the Deng Zhen edition as the original source,containing greatly altered and amended contents and numerous versions greatly influenced and impacted the following generations.
