Social communication disorder is one of the core symptoms of people with autism spectrum disorders(ASD),while the foundation of social interaction is the ability to identify social clues.As an important medium for early reading,picture books play an important role in children's identification of social clues and improvement of social interaction ability.In order to explore the characteristics of ASD children's visual processing of social information in picture books,two experimental studies were designed.In the first study,in order to explore the characteristics of ASD children's gaze on story elements and their eye movement processing modes in colorful continuous wordless picture books under natural conditions,30 ASD children and 30 typically developing(TD)children were selected to watch the content of the picture book.The results showed that ASD children's awareness of social information in picture books is longer and their observation duration is shorter;ASD children's processing order of content elements is similar to that of TD children,and they will give priority to the character elements in picture books and pay attention to the preferred protagonist,and then process other key information,showing a certain ability of joint attention.In the second study,in order to weaken the interference of irrelevant variables such as background information and color of picture books,manually draw picture books under 4 clue conditions according to 2(orderly: orderly,disorderly)× 2(clue: arrow,no arrow),explore the effect of external prompting clues on ASD children reading picture books.Let 30 ASD children and 30 TD children watch picture books under four clue conditions.The results showed that the prompting clues can promote ASD children's visual processing of some elements of picture books,which is shown as the extension of fixation time.In summary,When ASD children watch picture books in a natural state,they show attention preferences to some social information in picture books like TD children,and have a certain reading ability of picture books.External clues help ASD children to follow others' eyes when they watch picture books.It's effective to use picture books to carry out social cognitive training for ASD children.
