Objectives: To understand and analyze the demographic characteristics ? features of depression and risk factors of unipolar depression and bipolar depressive episode,so as to provide a basis for identifying unipolar depression and bipolar depression.Methods: The diagnostic criteria were the American diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders,DSM-IV.MINI was used as the diagnostic tool,The clinical data of 51 cases of bipolar depressive episode patients and 906 cases of unipolar depression patients were from The Shanghai epidemiological survey,comparing the clinical data and the clinical characteristics related to bipolar disorder were analyzed by multiple stepwise Logistic regression.Results:(1)Bipolar depressive episode patients were younger,the unipolar depression group had significantly higher rates of female and nonworking than the bipolar depression group,the unipolar depression group had more manual workers,while the bipolar depression group had more mental workers,the proportion of education of unipolar depression patients were lower than bipolar depression group.In bipolar depression group,the duration of every depressive episode>2 months were much higher,more previous depressive episodes,significantly younger at onset of the first depressive episode,less sleep problems.The father of unipolar depression patients was less educated,and the mother in both groups had a higher proportion of not attending school,and it was more common in the unipolar depression group.the unipolar depression group with more no income of individuals and other family members,and the family income is worse than others.Smoking,drinking,and a family history of mood disorders were more common in the bipolar depression group,and they had more hobbies and interests.(2)Further Logistic regression analysis showed that age of first onset,income of other family members,alcohol consumption and family history were independently correlated with bipolar disorder,and odds ratio(OR)were 0.957?1.979?2.771?0.687,respectively.Conclusions: The differences in demographic data and risk factors between unipolar depression and bipolar depression is significant for distinguishing them,while the most of depression features is not obvious.
