Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)has been widely used in pediatric clinical work.It depends on magnetic field and radiofrequency pulse to generate images, which can protect children from ionizing radiation.Besides,MRI has a high accuracy and detection rate, which is more popular among clinicians. However,MRI examination lasts a long time and is noisy, requiring the patient to lie still and keep regular and calm breathing,so as to ensure clear imaging and reduce the failure rate.Children often do not cooperate and need to be sedated to complete the examination. There are many sedatives commonly used in the clinic work, such as chloral hydrate, midazolam, propofol, dexmedetomidine and so on.Through oral administration, nasal drip, oral buccal film smear, intravenous injection, rectal administration, mask inhalation and other ways, anesthetists bring the child to a satisfactory level of sedation to complete the examination.Sedatives may cause changes in circulation and breathing in children, resulting in adverse events during and after sedation. An appropriate sedation project for children of different ages who need sedation can not only improve the one-time success rate of MRIexamination, but also reduce the incidence of adverse events.Based on the study of recent literatures at home and abroad, this paper reviews the usage situation of sedatives and methods in MRI examination of children.
